Tokio radio station workers also continued their strike and several thousand other Japanese unionists were described as being in a "state of dispute" or on the verge of strikes.

ACTION LIKELYGovernment leaders expressed belief that the scope of the strike waves would force General MacArthur's headquarters to take action because facilities tied up or threatened by strikes are necessary to the occupation. Some eighty thousand miners were on strike in Hokkaido and the nation's coal supply already is so precarious that the is expected to cancel passenger train service in Hokkaido tomorrow. RAIL THREAT- More rail services probably will have to be curtailed if the Hokkaido strike continues and threatened coal strikes in Kyushu, Ibaragi and f*cku Shima materialize. The miners are striking for average pay increases of 33 per cent, but they are also clamoring for the downfall of Premier Yoshida's government. Katsumi Kikunami, president of Japan's CIO and an editorial writer on the Tokio newspaper Asahi, makes the downfall of the Yoshida government the main national plank of the labor organization.

(The Japanese CIO has no connection with the United States CIO.)
