3 die in accidents during the weekend Three men have been killed on Cleveland roads so far this weekend, police reported. A Navy recruit commander, James W. Butler, 33, stationed in Pittsburgh and a former Lakewood resident, was killed yesterday when he lost control of his car, missed a curve on E. 9th St. near the pier and smashed into a concrete planter, said Patrolman Ernest Hayes.

Hayes said Butler, who was visiting relatives here, was driving about 30 miles per hour at 1:30 a.m.• when he crashed. He died of multiple injuries. Butler, a 17-year Navy veteran, is survived by his wife Veronica; three sons, James, 8, Patrick 6, and Michael parents, Dolores and James Butler; a sister, and two brothers. Also dead of multiple injuries was pedestrian Daniel Stroisch, 30, of Cleveland, who was released from prison six months ago, Hayes said He said Stroisch was trying to cross the westbound entrance ramp of Interstate 90 near W. 44th St. at 7:15 p.m. Friday when a van hit him. The van was traveling about 25 m.p.h., and the driver, a Ridgeville man, 29, was not cited, Hayes said.

Stroisch was identified through Eastlake police, who remembered his 11 tattoos, Hayes said, and contacted his ex-wife. A motorcycle accident on East Blvd. near Fairhill Rd. killed Frank Hollimon 25, of 4008 E. 154th shortly after 6 p.m.

LaGrange high school drops daily prayers Daily recitation of the Lord's Prayer was stopped last week at Keystone High School in LaGrange because of the possibility of a lawsuit, Principal Robert F. Shaffer said yesterday. 'Shaffer said the decision to discontinue reciting the prayer made after Supt.

David Worner got a call from the American Civil Liberties Union: He said i it was understood a lawsuit could be filed and "we just don't have the wherewithal financially to do anything, as far as court action goes." Shaffer said he had been reciting the prayer over the school's public address system every morning for years, "not to particularly espouse any religious or beliefs, but just to give (students) time to think about things that might be important to them." The students were not asked to. say the prayer with him, he said. Shaffer said he was aware of U.S. Supreme Court against public school prayers, but had never received complaints about the readings in the small community near Elyria. Last Monday, Shaffer said, the practice was discussed at a board of education meeting and the board voted 3-2 to allow him to continue.

The ACLU in Cleveland received a call about the practice on Tuesday, said Alan C. Rossman, a staff lawyer. Rossman said he called Worner Wednesday, had an "amiable" conversation and did not threaten a suit, although that would have been a possibility. Shaffer said since the issue came up, "our phones have been. ringing off the with calls of support.
