Nicole Brown Simpson's greatest fear was being 'slashed by a knife,' (2024)

A shocking new documentary looking into the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson 30 years ago has revealed that she once told her close friend that her greatest fear was being 'slashed by a knife'.

The four-part documentary 'The Life and Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson', which aired in the US on June 1 and will come to UK screens on Sunday, features never-before-seen home videos and interviews with Nicole's closest friends and family.

D'Anne Purcilly, a close friend of the Brown family, spoke about how Nicole once said that 'she had fears of being attacked from behind and being slashed by a knife'.

The comment was made at a dinner, D'Anne said, where someone asked what everyone's biggest fear was.

D'Anne also mentioned that Nicole's husband OJ Simpson had a knife collection. 'He was very into knives. It made me nervous', she told the cameras.

D'Anne went on to say that a few years later, 'when they were having a very difficult time', Nicole shared how her then-husband OJ would say to her: 'I am going to chop you up in little pieces and bury you up on Millholland and no one will know where you are. Not even your children.'

Mom-of-two Nicole was famously killed at the age of 35 alongside her friend Ron Goldman in June 1994, when her estranged husband former American football star OJ was arrested for the crime, but was then acquitted in what was one of the most-high profile and controversial celebrity trials.

OJ's presumed guilt in the murder even after he successfully argued his innocence, is a matter of pop culture lore.

Those close to Nicole do not doubt OJ's involvement in Nicole's death, the documentary showed.

Her three sisters Denise, Dominique and Tanya, as well as her close friends D'Anne, Kris Jenner and Faye Resnick featured in the film.

The release of the documentary comes a few months after OJ's death, who died aged 76 after a short battle with prostate cancer.

Simpson, a former football running back who played 11 seasons mostly with the Buffalo Bills, reinvented himself as an actor before Brown and Goldman's murders.

Although cleared of the killings, his reputation was tarnished forever and the latter part of his career was marked by a series of seedy ventures.

After being acquitted, Simpson went on to be found civilly liable for the murders and was later forced to pay out $33.5million in damages to the victims' families.

He faced further legal troubles when he was sentenced to up to 33 years behind bars for armed robbery in Nevada in 2008.

Following the news of his death, Nicole's sisters candidly revealed their 'happiness' at learning that her former spouse and suspected killer was dead, in an interview last month on the Today Show.

The controversy and conspiracy theories surrounding Nicole's murder have dogged her three sisters for the past three decades.

But in the wake of the former NFL star's death in April, the sisters spoke about their feelings on the matter as well as the fight to keep their sister's legacy alive.

'I think the whole world knew how I felt about him,' Denise told Today anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb.

'On that day, I was happy. When I heard the news, I was like, "Oh my God, finally,"' she described of her reaction to OJ's demise from cancer.

'But then, it kind of sunk in, "Wait a minute, there's Sydney and Justin,'" Denise continued, referencing the two adult children of O.J. and Nicole, Sydney, 38, and Justin, 35.

'I was like, "Wow, OK. I'm happy for me, I don't have to look over my shoulder any more,"' Denise clarified.

'I wasn't afraid of him. He was just always there, his presence, they were always talking about him in the media, things were always going on, but then it was that sadness for the kids because now they don't have a mom or a dad.

'So yeah, it was hard. It was tough,' Denise added.

For Dominque, meanwhile, 'It was very overwhelming,' she admitted.

'It was very complicated, very confusing, and at the same time so, so sad.

'I was really emotional. We didn't really know if it was true when we heard the news, and then we turn on the TV and it was confirmed that he had actually passed away.'

Dominque also acknowledged the new reality for Sydney and Justin, adding, 'I was so sad for the children.'

Both Sydney and Justin were asleep upstairs in their house when their mother and her friend were stabbed on the premises on June 12, 1994.

While he was acquitted at his murder trial in 1995, a civil court later found him liable for the two murders, and he was ordered to pay $33 million - though it's alleged that he never actually paid the fine.

In the aftermath, Denise - who testified about OJ's routine abuse of her sister at his trial - as well as Tanya went on to become domestic violence advocates.

The sister trio have been hard at work promoting the upcoming four-part Lifetime documentary.
