Finally!
Dear Scott R. Nelson,
Great news! Your 2021 Bronco Base 2 Door has been built. We are performing some final inspections on your vehicle and getting it ready for shipment.
Our current estimate for delivery to Kendall Ford is between January 4, 2022 and January 10, 2022.
Now I'm curious why it takes 13 days between "In Production" and "Built". But it's finished and I'll finally see it in a few weeks.

Because it was assembled by hand with box end wrenches?

Next you'll be wondering why it has to sit in train transfer parking lots for weeks on end.

Mine arrived nearly to the day they estimated the arrival.

Just saw this add in bend.is this like 40k over MSRP?
MSRP for that particular model is $61,605, and there are very few options that you can add to it, because it already has just about everything.

So that's 42% over MSRP. Thought so..

I've never understood the whole markup thing with dealerships. If demand was so high, how did you end up with any units in the first place? I still think they're just units that the customer cancelled their buy option on after the build or after the truck arrived and now the stealership is simply performing an exercise in flat out greed. Even if it wasn't a customer pre-order, I SERIOUSLY doubt they had to shell out anything more than the invoice amount in order to secure it. If so, I'd want proof and even then, it's still not worth it.

For all you fan boys who don't want to wait, there seems to be a bunch of new broncos on craigslist already getting flipped by their owners.
I don't mean flipped in the normal way broncos flip, by being upside down... Likely after breaking down.
they are being resold already after being recently bought, probably for a nice profit

I was interested, you wanted to fix it up yourself and either flip it or keep it was my recollection.
Also, you are really far away from me...
I don't recall ever hearing numbers or that it was actually for sale when we spoke. But I have a really hazy memory.
Glad it worked out for ya.
Enough digression. Bronco riders get upset when we talk about superior trucks in their thread.

Of course the dealer paid invoice for the unit. There’s holdback and other backend money, but for simplicity sake, they paid the invoice price we all can easily find out. Why sell it at MSRP, when you can easily sell it for tens of thousands more, and make even more money? Yes it’s greed. But dealers aren’t non profit organizations here. When it comes to high demand vehicles, there’s only a certain amount they will get, so they’re going to get all they can out of what little they get to work with.
In certain cases, like the Bronco, the manufacturer stipulated that all “reserved” units they got allocated had to be sold for MSRP. But for the most part, they don’t make any requirements like that with their dealers. So people who are dropping their deposits right now for 2023 Z06s will be paying dearly for them. Some dealers (or entire auto groups) have their own “no markup” policies in place, so getting a reservation at one of those dealers would be the best thing.
So what’s happening with all these $100k Broncos? Many of them were “reserved” units that the buyer decided to let go and not take delivery of for whatever reason. That unit now becomes an open stock unit which no longer is “reserved” and no longer is under any stipulations from Ford. Aaaaaand, there was another scenario. Ford caught wind of it and tried to mitigate this, but this still happened with quite a few “reservations” in the system. The units were reserved by dealership employees and/or their families. Which of course they would cancel and surrender to the dealership. And then the dealer gets to mark it up and make a sh*tload of money.
So back to the greed. Like I said, there are some dealers that will not do a markup. They might do some bullsh*t “forced” accessories (like yes we’ll sell you the car at sticker but you will have to buy $5k in whatever accessories you want) to pad the profits a bit, but they’re at least trying some long term relationship building with their customers by not completely gouging them. But most dealers have embraced the modern times. Now most people just go on the internet (Costco program, cars.com, etc) and just pick out the car with the lowest price. Dealers just waste their time trying to build a relationship since these most people will give their business to the lowest bidder no matter what. So it’s tit for tat now. You want to grind us down with your $1000 under invoice lowball offers for cars that aren’t in demand? Well we’re going to put the screws to you for cars that are in demand. We know you’re not coming back, so what do we care if you go away thinking we ripped you off.

Except I think the evidence will show they're definitely not selling "easily for tens of thousands more" at all. I don't personally know of a single (moron) that has agreed to pay that kind of money for a vehicle that is most certainly not worth that much of a markup and any of the Broncos that I've personally seen being sold for a markup by the dealers I pass daily have consistently been there for an extended period of time which, I would presume, doesn't make good business sense to hold on to as the people that would otherwise come in to the dealer to check them out will not likely be interested in anything else Ford has to offer. Thus, you have extremely overpriced lot candy that nets you foot traffic that just ends up eating the donuts you set out.

And let's be honest, what single car buyer, regardless of the level of their financial means, has looked at a car dealership who's adding ADM to the bottom line of vehicles they're selling and objectively thought to themselves, "Yeah this is totally honest, fair and necessary."

My guess, simply, is that they know that "there won't be any more", at least for the near term. So, may as well hold on to what they have in case a blue bird walks in and ponies up for it. These are the vehicles you put your best salesmen on to try to eek out the maximum profit from them. It's not like the person can go somewhere else to get one at a better price.
Eventually, of course, that will happen as supply bumps up.
But right now, it's a sellers market. The ADM is designed to disincentivize most buyers, but eventually someone serious will show up and they can can whittle down the $40K markup to a "reasonable" $20K.
As we all know, dealers make money but profit is hard to come by. How many car sales does a $20K windfall cover?
And it's not like they need the lot space.
Finally, if someone comes in and looks at a Bronco but walks out with an F-150 or something else, then it's a win win.

Yeah, I may only be speaking for myself, but I’ll remember a dealer who did that and make a point of not going there.
